Why choose Georgia Natural Gas?
Georgia Natural Gas is the state’s leading natural gas provider. We are committed to providing reliable, competitively priced gas service backed up by outstanding customer service. Our staff has years of experience serving Georgia residents and businesses. Natural gas is our only business, so it’s no wonder we are considered the experts. Why not go with the leader?

What is my gas price per therm?
Your price per therm depends on what price plan you selected. Under a variable market price plan, you pay for the gas you use each month at a competitive market price, so your cost of gas varies from month to month. Under a fixed price plan, you pay for the gas you use at a price per therm that is guaranteed for the length of your agreement, eliminating monthly fluctuations in price.

Why does my bill reflect “0” therms of gas consumed or “no reading”?
If the gas usage on your bill is zero, it means you did not consume any natural gas during the billing period. If your usage says “no reading,” that means we did not receive a meter reading from Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGLC).

Whom do I call for natural gas-related emergencies or if I smell gas?
Contact AGLC regarding either of the following issues:

  • Gas leaks or other natural gas-related emergencies
  • Meter problems

In metro Atlanta, call 770-994-1946 or 770-907-4231. Outside metro Atlanta, call 1-800-GAS-LINE (1-800-427-5463).

If I choose the Budget Billing Plan, how is my budget amount calculated?
Factors included in calculating your new budget payment amount are estimated gas usage for the next 12 months, anticipated gas prices, weather and other charges that will appear on your bill. GNG also uses your variance – or the difference between what you paid on the plan and your actual gas charges – as one factor in calculating your new monthly payment for the next budget period.

For information about calculating the budget amount for new plan customers or customers who have fewer than 12 months of payment history, see our Budget Billing Plan information.

Does Georgia Natural Gas require a contract?
GNG does not require a written contract. However, by accepting gas service from GNG, you agree to our Terms and Conditions of Service. When you select a fixed price plan, you are entering into a contract to remain on the plan for the length of your agreement.

Does Georgia Natural Gas offer special discounts for low-income customers?
Elderly citizens who qualify through Atlanta Gas Light Company for a reduced base charge will receive a discount of up to $14.00 per month off that charge. In addition, GNG offers qualified seniors a discounted per-therm rate.

To qualify, you must be 65 or older with a combined household income of $14,355 or less. See our Just For Seniors page for more information and a copy of the Senior Discount application. Or you can call us to request an application at 770-850-6200 (metro Atlanta) or toll-free at 1-877-850-6200 (outside Atlanta). If you are currently receiving a senior discount from AGLC, remember to mention it when enrolling with Georgia Natural Gas.

I have chosen another marketer but would like to switch to Georgia Natural Gas. Is there a fee to switch?
You have the right to switch to GNG from another gas marketer at any time. Just call us at 770-850-6200 (metro Atlanta) or toll-free at 1-877-850-6200 (outside Atlanta) and request that your gas service be switched to GNG. You are allowed one marketer switch per 12-month period at no charge. You may be assessed a switching fee by your new marketer if you make more than one marketer switch within a 12-month period. If you contact GNG prior to the 15th of the month, your gas service should be switched beginning the following month. If you request a marketer switch on or after the 15th of the month, your gas service may not be switched until the second month following your request.

What will my Georgia Natural Gas bill look like?
Visit this site’s Reading Your Bill page to view a sample GNG bill.

Regardless of your selected price plan, your GNG bill will contain the following components:

  • AGLC base charge – Regulated charge that Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGLC) bills through each gas marketer. Each month AGLC bills GNG a full base charge on the 20th of the month for all GNG customers receiving service as of the first of the next month. GNG, in turn, passes through that charge to its customers. Base charges effective on the 20th of the current month cover the following month.

  • GNG customer service charge – GNG’s cost of maintaining and servicing your account. This charge may vary based on your selected price plan. GNG bills a full customer service charge regardless of the number of days of service.

  • Gas charge – The cost for gas used during the month’s billing period, based on total therms used. For residential customers only, this charge also includes an interstate capacity charge.

  • Interstate pipeline capacity charge – A separately billed transportation charge that is based on your Designated Design Day Capacity (DDDC). GNG bills a full interstate capacity charge regardless of the number of days of service. (See related question about DDDC.)

  • Sales tax – Sales tax will be applied to all charges, with the exception of late charges.

What does the term Designated Design Day Capacity (DDDC) mean?
Designated Design Day Capacity is set by Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGLC) and is based on your consumption over the past year. The DDDC is a measure of the pipeline capacity for gas needed to serve your home or business on peak demand days, typically the coldest days of the year. The DDDC is calculated annually by AGLC.

Does Georgia Natural Gas need my Social Security number when I sign up?
Although the law does not require you to provide your Social Security number for identification purposes, GNG must have that information in order to complete your application for service.

I recently enrolled with Georgia Natural Gas. I received my first bill for seven days of service, with a full Base Charge. On my next bill, it appears that I’m being billed again for a Base Charge. Was I billed a Base Charge twice for the same month of service?
No. The first base charge was for the previous month of service, and the second base charge is for the current month. You are billed for 12 Base Charges per year, never more. Each month AGLC bills GNG a full base charge for all GNG customers of record as of the 20th of the month. GNG, in turn, passes through that charge to its customers. Base charges effective on the 20th of the current month cover the following month. For example, base charges effective on October 20 cover the month of November. GNG bills a full base charge regardless of the number of days of service.

I’ve recently chosen automatic bank draft for automatic payment of my gas bill. How do I know when my automatic bank draft payment will be debited from my checking account?
GNG’s bank draft payment plan automatically withdraws the amount due from your financial institution. Your account will be debited on the due date shown on your bill unless that date is a holiday or on a weekend. In those cases, your account will be debited the next business day.

What should I do if I want to terminate service with GNG?
If you are moving within Georgia, out of Georgia or otherwise want to terminate service, you must give GNG at least 10 business days’ advance notice by phone.
The number inside metro Atlanta is 770-850-6200; outside metro Atlanta the toll-free number is 1-877-850-6200. After you make the required phone call, you may submit a written request for termination to Georgia Natural Gas, P.O. Box 723908, Atlanta, GA 31139-0908, or notify GNG electronically at georgianaturalgas@alldata.net.

If you do not notify GNG by telephone that you want to terminate service, GNG will continue service until such notice is received. In either case, you will be responsible for paying all charges incurred until the time of termination.

On average, how many therms of natural gas do my gas appliances use?
The average monthly use for a water heater is 24 therms; for a range, 2 therms; and for a gas dryer, 5 therms. A gas grill uses 0.23 therms per use, and gas logs use 3 therms for every 8 hours of use.
